5Hits all the right notes! Charming!
By J. F. McCausland
Sometimes you read a book and find yourself thinking about it days later. It's beyond simply not wanting a good story to end, but that you become so involved in the lives of the characters that they become real. You miss them! Nicole Ross is a veterinarian who rushes back home when she learns her father has suffered a heart attack. The problem is that she has avoided returning home, even for a visit, for years out of fear of encountering Wyatt Clayton, the love of her youth who broke her heart - the father of her wonderful son, Justin. Nicole doesn't understand how Wyatt could be so utterly uninterested in talking about his own child. Wyatt, however, has no idea he has a son and is angry that Nicole keeps insisting on discussing the jerk boyfriend he overheard her say she loved. Their situation is complicated by the fact that she must take over her father's veterinary practice during his recovery, and that Wyatt is his main client. Everything explodes when Justin arrives early for his summer visit with his mom and grandfather. Secrets are exposed, betrayals revealed, and misunderstandings and confusions - past and present - are finally unraveled. Nicole, Wyatt, and even Justin are all strong, passionate, and very interesting characters. Coming Home is one of those wonderful stories that makes you laugh and cry, gasp in disbelief, stomp your foot in frustration, and yell out to the characters. All the elements a reader loves in a romantic love story. Lovers reunited is one of my favorite plots for a romance and Coming Home is one of the best of the genre. The secondary characters, especially the villains, are just as intriguing as the central characters. One is the obnoxious sort you love to hate, but another, although completely out of line, was motivated by love - just the types everyone encounters in their own lives. I enjoyed that the story was a realistic life story, with the simple yet devastating events everyone encounters and copes w ith in different ways. You know it's a goodie when you seek out more books by the author. Leslie Kelly is a new favorite!

Nicole has avoided going home in an effort to keep away from the one man that left her a broken mess ten years before, Wyatt Clayton. When her Father has a serious medical issue, she drops everything to rush there as quickly as possible. Wyatt has spent the last ten years stewing in anger at Nicole, and seeing her again has him wondering if he ever really got over her. Nicole and Wyatt are thrown together unceremoniously as Nicole fills in for her Father's veterinarian responsibilities, and the two try to avoid bringing up the past. When the epic blowout the two know is coming finally arrives will everything fall into place or will they both be blown into smithereens?

This was a great read. Nicole and Wyatt are great characters, and their history goes back ten years as teenagers in love to an abrupt end. The cause of the relationship's end is left blank and explained little by little as the story progresses. Both Nicole and Wyatt have uphill emotional battles g oing on that readers are treated to. It was great watching these two take the journey that was such a long time coming. I really loved being able to see both POV's; this wouldn't have been as great if we only had one POV to go by. The author did a really good job of trying to keep the readers from connecting all the dots too soon and really just playing it as Nicole and Wyatt came to terms with it.

Had the readers been told through Nicole's POV or Wyatt's POV the whole back story right off the bat, this would not have had anywhere near the same emotional impact as it does when it all finally comes out. We're treated to little bits and pieces and we're able to make assumptions without having it spelled out though. The author did a great job at getting me emotionally invested in the story, and I really enjoyed this and I loved the epilogue. I would definitely recommend this.

5Loved it!

Since I discovered Leslie Kelly with a Freebie (Slow Hands, which I also really enjoyed), I have to say that I really love her writing. This book is no exception. Misunderstandings, secrets, hot cowboy, steamy sex (always well done by Leslie Kelly) and humor makes this book believable and enjoyable to read. I can't wait to read another one of her books.
